Geographical notes
Collinas is located in Marmilla and borders on Gonnostramatza (Oristano), Lunamatrona, Mogoro (Oristano), Sardara, Siddi is Villanovaforru.
Origins of the name
The village was originally called Forru, and only on January 24, 1863 the mayor of the time, who was the jurist, philosopher and parliamentarian Giovanni Battista Tuveri, proposed to change the name due to postal problems with the neighboring village, called Villanovaforru. Several proposals were made and in the end Collinas was chosen because of the hills surrounding the town.
The name Forru in turn came from the Latin forum (because it stood in a small valley between the hills), or from terms that indicated the ovens there used to prepare terracotta or melt metals.
Background
The area was already inhabited in the pre-Nuragic era, as evidenced by the remains of wooden houses and branches, in the Nuragic era, due to the presence of numerous nuraghi, and in Roman times, due to the presence of the ruins of a spa.
In medieval times it belonged to the Giudicato of Arborea and was part of the curatoria of Marmilla. At the fall of the Giudicato (1410) it became part of the Marquisate of Oristano. Following the failure of the anti-Aragonese revolt of Leonardo Alagon, the last Marquis of Oristano, after the battle of Macomer (1478) the whole area passed under the Aragonese dominion. In the Aragonese period it was part of the Incontrada di Parte Montis, belonging to the county of Quirra, fief of the Carroz. In 1603 the county became a marquisate, a fief of the Centelles. In the Savoy period, in 1798, it passed to the Osorio de la Cueva, in possession of which it remained until 1839 when it was redeemed following the suppression of the feudal system.
In the first half of the 19th century, with the merger between the Kingdom of Sardinia and the Piedmontese mainland territory, Forru was incorporated into the province of Cagliari. In the Fascist era the municipality of Villanovaforru was aggregated (later reconstituted). In 2005 it passed to the province of Medio Campidano and in 2016 to the province of Southern Sardinia.
