background
The Costa de Almería is full of contrasts: wide beaches and small rocky coves, fertile landscapes and with the Tabernas desert the only - albeit small - desert area in Europe. A number of films were made there, most of them from the genre of Spaghetti Western, often called Spaghetti Westerns The film sets are popular tourist destinations.
The huge areas on which tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables are grown for the whole of Europe are less touristy and probably even more conspicuous: ugly plastic "greenhouses" stretch for kilometers along the street. This "sea of plastic" is now also controversial among the locals.
