background

"Costa del Azahar" means "coast of the orange blossom". The word Azahar has its origins in Arabic. The Catalan-Valencian name "Costa de la Tarongina" means orange tree coast. There are large plantations for oranges and peaches in the region.

Legally speaking, both Spanish and Valencian are official languages. Many signs, especially official ones, are bilingual. In general, in contrast to Catalonia to the north, Spanish has priority in everyday life.
