Dueodde - that's actually just sand, dunes, pine forests and the high lighthouse behind the dunes. The wide dune belt has been under nature protection since 1936, which means that the forces of nature are not stopped. After severe winter storms, it can happen that the beach has shrunk to a narrow strip in some places, but this regenerates in the following years through natural sand wash-up.
Dueodde is one of the epitome of Bornholm summer life - nowhere on Bornholm is the beach longer (10 km), wider (up to 300 m) and finer than in Dueodde. On the beach or in the dunes everyone will find their (almost) undisturbed spot - even in the high season.
Dueodde was also part of a plan by the German occupiers during the Second World War to develop Bornholm into a fortress, with the help of which the access to the Baltic Sea should be controlled and controlled at this point. Remnants of this never completed building project can be found hidden in the forests of Bornholm, monumental and in the stability of the concrete used, which seems to have been built there forever in the forest, also a memorial to future generations.
