Yekaterinburg (sometimes written Yekaterinburg, Yekaterinburg or, in Russian, Екатеринбу́рг) is a city in the region ofUrals in Russia. It is on the route of the Trans-Siberian.

In Soviet times, this city was called Sverdlovsk (Russian: Свердловск). With a census population of 1,350,136 inhabitants in 2010, it is the fourth largest city in Russia.

Yekaterinburg enjoys a continental climate characterized by a high amplitude of seasonal temperatures. Snow covers the ground an average of 166 days per year from mid-October to mid-April. The snow depth can reach 80 cm at the end of winter. Summer is short and lasts an average of 65 to 70 days. In summer the snowfall is not that exceptional. The weather is very capricious. Yekaterinburg has an international airport named Koltsovo which offers international flights to Minsk, Rome, Sofia, Frankfurt, Munich, Prague, Barcelona, Vienna, Dubai, Tel Aviv, Istanbul, Tashkent and Helsinki.

Domestic flights connect this city daily to Moscow and St Petersburg. There are also flights to Vladivostok, Novosibirsk and Nizhny Novgorod.

By train

Yekaterinburg is on the Trans-Siberian connecting Moscow To Vladivostok and Beijing. Regional trains serve the outskirts of the city.

  • The Sur-le-Sang-versé Orthodox Church (Close to Dinamo metro station) – was built between 2000 and 2003 on the site of the assassination of the imperial family, the .
  • QWERTY monument (Close to Ploshad '1905 goda metro station) – One of the strangest attractions in Russia. It is a gigantic monument shaped like a computer keyboard.

  • Shirokorechenskoye Kladbishche Cemetery (Широкореченское Кладбище) (Take bus 14, 22, 24, 37k, 048, 69 to the Kontrol'naya stop (Контрольная)) – This cemetery dubbed the Mafia Cemetery is filled with stele adorned with life-size images of former Mafiosi.
