Territory of Enna is the territory of the city of Enna, in Sicily

To know

Ennese is located in the heart of Sicily with the geographical center of the island just a Enna. It has a remarkable natural heritage, with lakes and woods some set up as nature reserves.

Geographical notes

The territory is mainly hilly with modest plains. The main mountain ranges are the Erei mountains, with an average altitude of less than a thousand meters, which occupy the central and southern part of the territory; the Nebrodi to the north, they reach a more considerable altitude, the highest peaks of which oscillate between 1192 m of Monte Altesina and 1559 m of Monte Sambughetti.

The flat territory, in the central-eastern part, consists mainly of a large portion of the plain of Catania cultivated in part with citrus fruits, near the town of New Chain and a portion cultivated with cereals ad Aidone. A low-hilly basin is made up of the valley of the Dittaino river, which from Enna slopes down to the plain, within which some agricultural production activities and small industries have developed and which represented the most favorable penetration area for the roads and railway.

The territory is home to eight medium-large lakes, mostly artificial and serving agriculture.

When to go

The climate varies between the mountain and the Mediterranean (for temperatures). The average annual rainfall is about 500 mm and places the area among the least humid in Sicily.

Winter is generally characterized by cold temperatures in high altitude municipalities but which hardly drop below freezing. Snow characterizes the centers of the northern area (especially Troina) and sometimes even Enna. In the mountains, snowfalls are frequent and abundant. Part of the rainfall is concentrated in this season.
Spring and autumn are the green seasons par excellence with moderate rains; the extensive hills are colored by the green of the extensive wheat fields. Summer is often characterized by drought with dry heat. Temperatures are generally high (around 30 ° C).

Spoken languages

In the cities of Nicosia, Sperlinga, Piazza Armerina is Aidone, the Gallo-Italian dialect is spoken due to the migrations of Lombard populations in eastern Sicily between the 11th and 13th centuries.

Cycling tourism

  • 1 Take the SP75 (the road is taken from the roundabout of the Sicily Village outlet and ends on SP21 near Take action). This provincial road is closed to traffic due to the numerous landslides and the rather dangerous road for cars. By bike, on the other hand, it is a very beautiful and panoramic route in the middle of the countryside. The difference in height of about 300 meters should be considered.
