What see

The castle of Presule
  • 1 Presule Castle (Schloss Proesels). It is a splendid example of Gothic art, and its creation dates back to the time of Maximilian I of Habsburg in 1517, as written above the entrance portal. In reality, the lords of Fiè, administrators of the bishops of Bressanone, built the manor as early as 1200. The most famous owner was Count Leonhard von Völs (1458-1530), who lived in the heyday of the castle.
The South Tyrolean poet Oswald von Wolkenstein also stayed there for some time.
In Italian it is sometimes referred to as Castel Colonna. This is because the Völs (Fiè), at a certain point, under Leonardo II, began to add the surname Colonna to their own for reasons that are not clearly known.
From 1804 to 1978 the castle changed ownership several times and experienced some periods of decline followed also by periods of restoration. In the end, however, he was left to himself.
Only in 1981 a group of enthusiasts founded the Kuratorium Schloss Prösels S.r.l., and thus began the renovation works that lasted until 1982.
In the summer months, guided tours can be made. In addition, numerous events are often held there. The castle houses a collection of weapons and armor; a collection of paintings formerly from the "Batzenhäusl" restaurant in Bolzano; a collection of modern paintings.
A loggia with pointed arches in which some frescoes have been preserved makes a fine show in the courtyard. The complex also displays a medieval-era powder magazine.
  • Church of Santa Maria Assunta (Pfarrkirche Maria Himmelfahrt). It is the parish church of the town.
The 12th century Romanesque building was remodeled in Gothic style after a fire in 1440. The current church is the result of a 16th century reconstruction
  • Parish Museum, 39 0471 725087. Ecb copyright.svgfree. It is set up in the ancient imiterial chapel of San Michele. There are preserved objects of sacred art from the churches in the area.
  • Archaeological Museum. Ecb copyright.svgfree. Also located in the cemetery chapel of San Michele, in local sites on the ground floor, it collects artifacts from the Peterbühel area that cover a time span from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages.

Sites of environmental interest

The Sciliar seen from the Alpe di Siusi
  • Sciliar nature park (Naturpark Schlern-Rosengarten). It is a natural area of 6,796 hectares in the western Dolomites chain and includes territories of the municipalities of Castelrotto, Tires and Fiè allo Sciliar. The nature park was established in 1974, the first of the seven parks in South Tyrol, and together with the landscape protection area of the Alpe di Siusi it forms a large natural area. Two of its most famous peaks are the Santner point and the Euringer point.
The Sciliar (Schlern) has as its highest point the Petz mountain, with its 2,563 meters above sea level. Since 2003 also the Catinaccio (Rosengarten) 2,981 m is part of the natural area.
The main refuges are the Bolzano Refuge (2,450 m) and the Alpe di Tires Refuge (2,440 m). Lake Fiè is included in the park.
Near the Baths of Lavina Bianca (Weißlahnbad), in the municipality of Tires, the "Steger Säge Information Center", the park's visitor center, set up inside an old water mill that operated a hydraulic sawmill, which has been operating since from the distant 1598 until the end of the 1950s.
In addition to this visitor center, there is an information point (Infostelle Völser Weiher) at Lake Fiè.
Inside the park the fauna present is varied and includes squirrels, hawks, marmots and other species. In the semi-free state, however, there are horse, cow and goat farms.
The lake of Fiè
  • Lake of Fiè (Völser Weiher). The Lake of Fiè (Völser Weiher in German) is a small alpine lake located on the plateau of Fiè at 1036; surrounded by fir trees, it is located at the foot of the Sciliar massif and Punta Santner. : It is fed by a spring that was called "blood of the Sciliar" (Schlernblut), due to its location in an area where propitiatory rites and animal sacrifices were performed in prehistoric times. : About half of the lake is occupied by a reed bed (biotope of the Lake of Fiè).
The artificial lake - To the west, about ten minutes on foot, there is a second small lake of artificial origin, the creation of which is due to Leonhard I von Völs, castellan of the Tyrol and captain of the Atesina region. The pond was created for carp breeding and for irrigation of the fields below. Even today it is possible to practice sport fishing.
