If you want to do a cycling tour in Vogelsberg, you can leave your car in Schotten.

Tour suggestion for sporty people from Schotten: Ascent by bike over the Hoherodskopfsteig to the Hoherodskopf (refreshment stops), ascent of the Bismark tower on the Taufstein, ride over the Ohm cycle path to Ulrichstein. On the way the Geiselstein, the Breunigesheimer Moor and the Nidda spring can be visited. After climbing the Burgberg in Ulrichstein (beautiful panorama; refreshment stops in town), the route takes the mountainous R4 back to Schotten. Route length: approx. 45 km with approx. 800 meters in altitude

  • Bulkheads - Connection Hess. Long-distance cycle route R4 From Schotten (250 m above sea level) there are approx. 500 meters in altitude to the Hoherodskopf to be overcome at 754 m.
The demanding driveway branches off from the R 4 just below Schotten and leads via Michelbach and Breungeshain to the most famous mountain in the Vogelsberg. The route is largely traffic-free and paved as far as the Oberwald. Only the last part in the Oberwald (approx. 3 km) has to be covered on gravel paths.
After you have reached the forest, it goes up once to the left. If you want to go up the mountain, instead of going right, you have to go up again to the left. Shortly afterwards you will reach the entrance to the parking lot and information center.

First you drive the same route back a short distance. At the point where you came up from the right, you now drive straight ahead. As far as Herchenhain, the route leads over gravel roads through the Oberwald. From the end of the forest above Herchenhain, the route is paved again.

Connection route to Ulrichstein

From the Hoherodskopf a signposted path leads right past the baptismal font to the "Sieben Ahorn". Shortly before Ulrichsten you come across the long-distance cycle paths R4 and R7. The path has almost only a medium gradient. Most of the route runs on easy-to-drive, gravel roads in the Oberwald. From Ulrichstein you can get to the starting point on the R4.
