Jöhstadt is a mountain town in the Upper Ore Mountains, located in a wooded area of ​​the romantic Black Water and Pressnitz Valley near the Czech border.

The mining town owes its origins to mining. In 1655 Jöhstadt was granted city rights by Johannes Georg I, Duke of Saxony. In the same year the Jöhstadt Mining, Knapp and Brotherhood was founded, which reminds of the old mining traditions with its mountain parades on Christmas Day and Pentecost.

  • Andreas-Gegentrum-Stolln visitor mine: The visitor mine is located in the idyllic Preßnitztal between the districts of Steinbach and Schmalzgrube and can be reached directly with the Preßnitztalbahn. Work in the mine began in 1748, red gold ore, cobalt and gravel containing silver were found. In 1843, however, the work was stopped again. Since 1984 mining friends from Steinbach and Jöhstadt have been rebuilding this mining area in order to preserve this piece of mining history for posterity. Every year on the 2nd Advent a traditional Mettenschicht takes place here. The miners in historical uniforms move into the mining area at the ringing of the bell. In addition, every Advent there is an underground Metten shift, in which a maximum of 22 people can participate.   • "Am Gründelwald" ski area: 3 ski slopes (300m for beginners, 600m and 300m for advanced) and 2 drag lifts offer ideal conditions for alpine winter sports.   • Hike: An extensive network of hiking trails between the individual districts leads through varied landscapes, e.g. through the Schwarzwasser and Preßnitz valleys. The hiking trails are well marked and are constantly being expanded. Selected hiking routes around Jöhstädt can be found here.
  • Cycling: The existing hiking trails are also well suited for cycling. There is also a cycle path from Selva through the Preßnitz valley. The surrounding mountains offer excellent conditions for more intensive cycling. In the "Four Strokes Tour" there is the possibility to compete with other cyclists or with the demanding route. The 80 km long bike tour starts at the market Oberwiesenthal and runs from there over the mountains Bärenstein (898 m), Pöhlberg (834 m) and Scheibenberg (807 m) and ends at Fichtelberg (1214 m).
