Kęty (German: Becoming in love) is a place in Poland in the southern voivodeship Lesser Poland near Krakow between Little Beskids and the Silesian promontory.

background

The city was first mentioned in a document in 1242, received town charter in 1277 and from 1315 belonged to the Duchy of Auschwitz. Many German settlers lived in the village. The Saint John Cantius was born here in 1390. With the First Partition of Poland in 1772 he came to the Habsburg kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, which remained until the First World War. After the First World War, the city became Polish again. After the German invasion of Poland, the place was directly incorporated into the Third Reich. In 1945 he came back to Poland.
