Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is a city in Poland in the southern voivodeship Lesser Poland near Krakow in the Makov Beskids. In 1600, the magnate Mikołaj Zebrzydowski, who was previously the Polish ambassador to Jerusalem in the Ottoman Empire, founded an early baroque monastery with a Stations of the Cross of 42 chapels, which he modeled on the hills of Jerusalem Beskydy Mountains built on Mount Tsar and around a river Cedron. The largest Passion Festival takes place there at Easter and the largest Corpus Christi procession in Poland in early summer, to which a total of over a million pilgrims come every year. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is in the immediate vicinity of Wadowice, the birthplace of Karol Wojtyła, the Archbishop of Cracow and later Pope John Paul II Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is close to the big city Krakow. The nearest international airport is the Krakow Airport. The international Katowice Airport is not far away either.

By train

There are train connections from Kraków and Katowice. The main train station is near Kalwaria Zebrzydowska 1 Kalwaria Zebrzydowska Lanckorona train station. Another train stop north of the village, 2 Kalwaria Zebrzydowska train station is approached less frequently.

Coming from Kraków, it is better to start the journey in Kraków Płaszów Railway Station, as there are no direct connections from Kraków Główny Railway Station. The journey from Kraków Płaszów takes a little less than 1 hour and costs 6 zł.
