The small town Koenigsee lies on the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest Nature Park, in the valley of the Rinne, a tributary of the Schwarza, and between Bad Blankenburg at the Schwarzatal and Ilmenau.

- Late baroque town hall. 1719/21, before that the world's largest twist drill, manufactured by the Werkö tool factory in Königsee.
