The small town Koenigsee lies on the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest Nature Park, in the valley of the Rinne, a tributary of the Schwarza, and between Bad Blankenburg at the Schwarzatal and Ilmenau.

  • Schwarzburg (10 km southeast, B 88 to Köditz, turn right there) - located in the wild and romantic Schwarzatal; Schwarzburg castle ruins.
