By train

Lauterbach train station is located on the northern outskirts of the city (called "Lauterbach (Hess) Nord" in the DB information system). It is located on the Vogelsbergbahn, which runs from Gießen via Alsfeld to Fulda. The next long-distance train station with an ICE connection is Fulda (approx. 25 to 30 minutes travel time, depending on the connection).

As of 2011, the station itself made a very bleak impression (curiosity: gravel bed instead of track in front of the building). To the beginning of the old town, you walk about a kilometer on Bahnhofstrasse.
