Lengerich is a city in Tecklenburger Land.

Already around 2000 BC. was settled here. A megalithic complex from this time clearly shows this. The place was first mentioned in documents in the 11th century. From 1320 the place became increasingly known as a place of pilgrimage. A figure of St. Margaret, who was awarded some miracles and was supposed to have a fountain with healing water, led to a stream of pilgrims. This came to an end with the Reformation in 1527. In 1645, preliminary negotiations for the negotiations were held in Lengerich Muenster and Osnabrück instead of. These negotiations finally ended the Thirty Years' War through the Peace of Westphalia. In 1727 the place received city rights.

  • 1 Romans - The gatehouse to the churchyard originally dates from the 13th century. The naming is unclear. Over the centuries the building served as a town hall, school or residential building. A restaurant and a pub can currently be found in the building.
  • 2 Old Town Hall - Today the tourist information, the city archive and the library are housed here
  • 3 Evangelical town church - A church is said to have stood here as early as the 9th century. This was replaced at the beginning of the 14th century by a new building, which housed a sculpture of St. Margaret inside. Some miracles were attributed to this sculpture, so that the church developed into a place of pilgrimage. In order to cope with the onslaught of pilgrims, the church was replaced by a larger new building in the 15th century. This essentially corresponds to the current appearance. The miracle sculpture, however, fell victim to the Reformation in 1527.
  • 4 Water tank chimney - The Gempt Tower
  • 5 Gut Erpenbeck - The listed property consists of a grain mill, a chicory mill, a wheelwright and a forge.

  • 6 Megalithic tomb In 1927 this grave complex was uncovered. The finds of the discovered 200 graves can be found today in the museum in Münster. You can see the stone complex from the period 2000 BC.
