background
The Tecklenburger Land corresponds to the area of the former county of Tecklenburg and the later district of Tecklenburg in the Prussian province of Westphalia. Despite protests from the population, it was merged with the Steinfurt district in 1975. Although the Tecklenburger Land no longer exists as an official entity, there is still a strong regional identification. The "own" license plate TE, which has been issued again since 2013, is therefore extremely popular.
The landscape is hilly and includes the western foothills of the Teutoburg Forest, which is 236 m above sea level on the Westerbecker Berg. M. achieved.
language
The traditional dialect is the Tecklenburger Platt, a variant of Low German that differs noticeably from the neighboring Münsterländer Platt. Nowadays, however, Standard German is also spoken everywhere.
