Ladbergen is a city in Tecklenburger Land.
background
Excavation finds indicate the first settlement activity in the early Bronze Age. A first documentary mention takes place in the year 950. In Ladbergen was 1246 of the most important cities of the Münsterland the Ladbergen Association of Cities was founded. This is seen as the forerunner of the Hanseatic League. In 1533 it is made by the Count of Tecklenburg the evangelical faith introduced. In the negotiations on the Westphalian peace, the place gets a special role. Since the negotiations in Osnabrück and Münster take place at the same time, the Ladbergen 1648 is used as a transit station for messengers who ensure communication between the negotiating partners. During the Second World War, the place was of particular interest to the Allied Air Force. In numerous bombing raids, attempts were in vain to hit the Dortmund-Ems Canal in such a way that the water from the canal over the Mühlenbach flooded the surrounding area. No other place in the German Reich had to accept so many bombs per square meter. Today one lives here in a tranquil rural idyll. Numerous long-term campers appreciate this. Around every tenth inhabitant here is a permanent camper.
