Ludźmierz is a mountain town in Poland in the voivodeship Lesser Poland. The place is in the historical region Podhale at the foot of the High Tatras South from Krakow and not far from Nowy Targ on the black Dunajec. He is lying on the Way of the Cistercians.

background

At the beginning of the 13th century, a Cistercian monastery was established in the village Jędrzejów founded. The founding of the monastery is the oldest documented settlement of the Podhales. The place itself was created in 1234 at the monastery. All other places in the area that initially belonged to the monastery were founded from here. The place is an important pilgrimage site in which a Gothic statue of Mary from the 15th century is venerated. 1865 was born in Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer, the poet of Podhale.
