In addition to the city of Münsingen, the community also consists of the districts of Apfelstetten, Auingen, Bichishausen, Böttingen, Bremelau, Buttenhausen, Dottingen, Gundelfingen, Magolsheim, Hundersingen, Rietheim and Trailfingen.
Between 1938 and 1973, Münsingen was the capital of the Münsingen district. The district became part of the district of Reutlingen on the occasion of the territorial reform in 1973.
In 1895 the German Reich established a military training area on the marking area, which existed until 2005. The area of the practice area was declared a community-free area of Guts Bezirk Münsingen in 1942. The area was added to the Swabian Alb Biosphere Reserve when the military training area was closed.
Until 1805, the border between Württemberg and Fürstenberg ran in the district of Bichishausen. Today the customs house is a reminder of that time.
