Malaysia - a country in Southeast Asia, the Malay Peninsula and the island Borneo; area 329 847 km², population 27 730 000 (September 5, 2008), the capital Kuala Lumpur (approx. 1,500,000 inhabitants), the seat of the government in Putrajaya.

Characteristic

Malaysia on the Malay Peninsula is bordered by Thailand, on the island of Borneo with Brunei and Indonesia.

Malaysia is a predominantly Muslim country (with the exception of Sabah, which is the only province with a Catholic majority). Tourists, however, who are concerned about the hard execution of Sharia law, can get rid of their fears. Malaysia is a tolerant country, although proud of its Muslim traditions. In places of worship, such as mosques, normal rules of behavior should be maintained in places related to the religion of Islam - women must have their arms, legs and hair covered. Topless sunbathing is absolutely forbidden on public beaches, swimming pools etc.

Security

Malaysia is a safe country with low crime. For obvious reasons, however, you should exercise the usual caution in crowded public places. In addition, as in the rest of Southeast Asia, be careful of hustlers (bargain in most places), with particular emphasis on taxi drivers who like to raise the price when serving a tourist. In general, however, Malaysia is relatively free from the problem of tricksters, compared to other countries in the region.
