The Maremma is a coastal region straddling the Tuscany and the Lazio in Italy.

Understand

Area bordered to the north by the Val de Cecina (including Volterra is the flagship), to the east by the Val d'Orcia, the Maremma extends to the borders of Lazio South. Former marshy region, the Italian Camargue where the silhouettes of butteri stand out, horse guardians of the herds of cows with long slender horns, it is now famous for its Natural Park of 25 000 Ha, healthy and rich in fauna (migratory birds, wild boars, deer, etc.) and flora (pine forests, machia, etc.) surprisingly diversified.

The Maremma is also rich in Etruscan remains, thermal spas (Saturnia) and seaside (Castiglione della Pesciaia, ...), medieval towns (Pitigliano), marinas such as Porto San Stefano. Its cuisine is imbued with the flavors of a traditional terroir at its center and the fishery products on its coast. A few good wines aged on its hillsides enhance the dishes (red Morellino from Scansano, white from Pitigliano, etc.) And some excellent restaurants including “Tuffo Allegro” in Pitigliano and its “rack of lamb stuffed with sweetbreads” . Another amazing experience, the I Pescatori restaurant in Orbetello, created as a cooperative by fishermen who cook their own fishing products there, serve customers in a friendly atmosphere, all at unbeatable prices.

And of course, since we are in Tuscany, enchanting landscapes such as the cliffs and coves of the Argentario, the hills in the center which join in long valleys those of the Val d'Orcia and the Sienese ridges, the coastal beaches, ...
