Marktl at the Inn is a city in Upper Bavaria and birthplace of the Pope, who was in office from 2005 to February 2013 Benedict XVI.

Marktl is world-famous as the birthplace of Josef Ratzingerwho was born here on April 16, 1927 and was elected Pope on April 19, 2005 in Rome. Cardinal Ratzinger was the Dean of the College of Cardinals and Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and resigned from his office in February 2013 for reasons of age.

- Joseph Ratzinger's birthplace, jointly managed by the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and the Diocese of Passau through the "Foundation Birthplace of Pope Benedict XVI."
- The birthplace of Joseph Ratzinger is also the birthplace of Georg Lankensperger (* March 31, 1779 in Marktl; † July 11, 1847), he was the inventor of the stub axle steering in which each front wheel of an axle rotates on its own and the axle itself is not deflected.
