Background

Marone was already inhabited in Roman times, as evidenced by the remains of a villa, walls and baths, and by the presence of a consular road that connected Brescia and the Val Camonica. In the Middle Ages, the coast was reclaimed by the Benedictine monks.

In the fifteenth century wool was already worked and, subsequently, blankets and cloths. The importance of the town grew with the expansion of the port in the 16th century, and at the same time the working of iron by means of smelting furnaces spread.

In the last century the mining activity of dolomite also developed, which continues today.

It is possible to move around on foot and by bike, which can be rented thanks to the bike sharing service (for a fee) organized by the mountain community of Sebino Brescia.

Vello - panorama
  • Church of St. Martin of Tours, Via Lungolago Marconi. Consecrated in 1754, inside you can admire some paintings by Romanino. In the adjacent Church of the Carmine, during the Christmas period, a nativity scene with glimpses of Marone is set up every year (free admission).
  • Villa Vismara, Via Roma. The villa houses the municipal library and, from the park with olive trees where events and demonstrations are often held, it is possible to reach both a small beach on the lake and the town center.
  • Vintage pedal, Via Roma 42. Exhibits of historic bicycles are set up inside. [1]
  • Remains of the Roman villa, Via Cristini. Precious testimony from the past of Maronese antiquity, in the locality of Vela.
  • Hermitage of S. Pietro in Vinculis, Pregasso. Built in the 15th century after the destruction of the castle located there, the hermitage was the first parish church of Marone.
  • Sanctuary of the Madonna della Rota, along the way to Zones. Dating back to the 15th century and remembered for the frescoes by Giovanni da Marone.
  • Fraction of Vello. Small picturesque village, with a characteristic marina, located on the coast road to Pisogne.
  • Church of S. Eufemia, Vello. Contains a canvas by Ottavio Amigoni from 1647.
  • Cemetery church (Ancient parish church), Vello. Inside you can admire frescoes by the painter Giovanni da Marone, including the Annunciation of 1489.

  • Feast of St. Peter. Food stands and typical specialties, such as casoncelli and capù (respectively, Brescia ravioli and stuffed meatballs wrapped in cabbage), with musical accompaniment and karaoke evening.
  • La Lacustre (October). Tour of Lake Iseo with bicycles and historical costumes (non-competitive race organized by Pedale Vintage).
