Geographical notes

Morgongiori rises on the southern slope of Mount Arci. Among the rugged rocky walls that surround it, the natural sculpture called "Warrior's Head" stands out. It is located in the historical region of Marmilla and borders on Ales, Curcuris, Marrubiu, Masullas, Pompu, Santa Giusta, Siris is Uras.

Background

The numerous archaeological sites in the area and the workshops for the extraction and processing of obsidian testify to the presence of man in the area since ancient times. The area was also inhabited in the Nuragic era due to the presence in the territory of some nuraghi.

In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Arborea, and was part of the curatoria of Parte Montis. At the fall of the Giudicato (1410) it became part of the Marquisate of Oristano, and at the definitive defeat of the Arboreans (1478) it passed under the Aragonese dominion and was incorporated into the Incontrada di Parte Montis, occupied by the troops of the feudal lord of Quirra Berengario Bertran Carroz , who by marrying Eleonora Manriquez officially obtained control of it from the king until the extinction of the Bertran Carroz in 1511.

In 1603 it was incorporated into the Marquisate of Quirra, a feud first of the Centelles until 1670, then of the Català and finally (from 1766) of the Osorio de la Cueva. The town was redeemed from the last feudal lords in 1839, with the suppression of the feudal system.
