Nador is a city in the Mediterranean Morocco.
To know
Nador, about ten km south of Melilla, is a city and seaside resort that stretches out on a lagoon known as Mar Chica (Daughter of the sea).
With the nearby Spanish city, Nador engages in a smuggling of consumer goods of the most disparate.
In the summer, the city is mainly frequented by Moroccan vacationers who work abroad, but the city is likely to attract a growing number of foreign visitors thanks to the new railway line inaugurated in 2009 and the low prices charged by its hotels.
The city has a modern look with a checkerboard but well-kept layout. Its tourist interest lies in the lagoon where numerous species of migratory birds stop every year. A small colony of flamingos is permanently established there. On the eastern edge of Mar Chica stands Ras el-Maa, a village with camping possibilities. Opposite lies the tiny archipelago of the Chafarinas under Spanish sovereignty.
Background
Nador was a meeting point of the indigenous (Berber) and Phoenician civilizations, Carthaginian, Roman, and later Islamic.
At different times, the region has also been home to several kings of Morocco. This happened, for example, with Omar, son of Idris II (9th century) or, later, with the sovereign Almoravide Yūsuf Ibn Tāshfīn, who settled with his troops on Mount Temsamane in the Rif.
Sultan Mohammed ben Abdallah also chose the site of Nador as a place to concentrate his troops during the siege of Melilla (1774).

There are 3 trains in service every day that make the Taourirt-Nador route in about two hours. The train ride from Nador to Fès takes 4 1/2 hours, per Casablanca 12.
