History
As a political municipality, Oberndorf is very young (1927), but the history of the settlement goes back a long way into past centuries.
- 1875 the Giselabahn (between Salzburg and Wörgl), which consequently ran through Oberndorf, was opened. In 1881 the Wiesenschwang-Oberndorf stop was opened.
- 1892 a meeting took place to separate the Oberndorf faction from St. Johann, but all efforts were in vain.
- 1898 the community bought the Schneiderwirt which was later converted into a new school building. The opening took place on November 15, 1898.
- 1905 the unveiling ceremony of the Hager memorial took place in Oberndorf.
- 1909 A fire brigade was founded in the Oberndorf parliamentary group. The major fires in the spring of 1908 were decisive for this step.
A German mining company found ore in Oberndorf in 1908, which led to professional mining that lasted until 1914. In 1917 mining operations were resumed and stopped again after the end of the First World War.
- 1911 one tried again to part with St. Johann. This time it seemed that it could work, because the parish council of St. Johann Johann Karl wanted to divide the parish into three independent parts. These three communities should be St. Johann-Dorf, St. Johann-Land and Oberndorf. Unfortunately, this plan to separate St. Johann into three parts was not approved by either the community committee or the state government.
- 1912 there was widespread flooding after torrential rains, with much arable land being destroyed.
- 1927 Oberndorf finally becomes an independent municipality. After a referendum on February 15, 1925, the town council of Oberndorf applied to the town council meeting on June 20, 1925 to separate Oberndorf from the parish of St. Johann. After hours of negotiation, the vote was finally taken and the proposal was accepted with 12: 8 votes. A large part of the village representatives and the Oberndorf municipal council voted in favor of the separation, while the farmers' representatives and a smaller part of the village representatives voted.
- In the Tyrolean state parliament came on February 8, 1927 the following legal resolution comes about: “With July 1, 1927 Oberndorf is an independent municipality! "
- At the June 26, 1927 the first municipal council elections for the independent municipality of Oberndorf took place. Mathias Hager, Adlerbauer, was elected first mayor. The first community secretary to order was Obl Burger.
- In 1961 Kitzbühel ski instructor Karli Monitzer received official permission to run a ski school in Oberndorf. Efforts to build a drag lift were already underway beforehand. Mr. Monitzer took over the construction of the drag lift all by himself. Sebastian Schroll, tailor builder, provided the reason for a reasonable price. A wonderful autumn made it possible for the lift to go into operation on December 22nd, 1961.
