Ochsenfurt is one of the most picturesque towns on the southern tip of the Main triangle in Lower Franconia in the northern Bavaria.

background

Main road

A ford is a shallow spot in the river, a river crossing. If you can cross the ford with oxen as draft animals, it is an ox ford. Such a ford is the godfather of many city names - for example the English "Oxford". The special tourist attraction of the city of Ochsenfurt lies in its historical building fabric, which is embedded in the picturesque Main Valley with its numerous vineyards. The fortification of the old town (defense towers, city gates, city wall) is considered to be one of the best preserved in all of Bavaria.
