Ostrów County it is situated in the southwestern part Greater Poland Voivodeship. It borders with Lower Silesian Voivodeship and the following poviats: Krotoszyn, Pleszew, Kalisz and Ostrzeszów. Over 160,000 inhabitants live in an area of ​​1175.2 km².

Characteristic

Agricultural land covers 61% of the area, while forests almost 28%. Therefore, the poviat has an agricultural and industrial character, and the natural consequence of this is the agri-food industry dominating the structure of the economy. Tourism is also developing quite well. It is also important that the entire area of ​​the poviat has a well-developed infrastructure: water supply and telephones are a matter of course, and most communes have their own sewage treatment plants.

There are many green areas, meadows and forests in the Ostrów County. The most famous forms of nature protection in the area are: "Barycz Valley" Landscape Park, European Bird Refuge covered by the Ramsar Convention, 2 km from the southern border of the city; Protected Landscape Area Prosny Valley and Kotlina Grabowska2 km from the eastern border of the city, Protected Landscape Area of ​​the Ostrzeszowskie Hills and Odolanów Basin. These areas are quite extensive and also extend to the neighboring counties.

History

In 1815, when for the first time the Prussian administration moved the seat of the Odolanów poviat and part of the institution (Poviat Court, Poviat Fund) to Ostrów. From that moment on, all new institutions and facilities of poviat rank are created only in this city. After World War II, the poviat is divided again: into the Ostrów poviat and the city with the rights of the Ostrów poviat. In 1975, as a result of the centralizing administrative reform, both counties were liquidated. This state of affairs lasted until 1999, when the unified Ostrów County was restored with another reform.

Economy

The Ostrowski Poviat has an agricultural and industrial character, the area has a very good infrastructure - it has water supply systems, telephones, most communes have their own sewage treatment plants and build a sewage system. There is no tradition of heavy industry in the poviat, but the agri-food industry has good development prospects.

  • Alkart[4] - the kart track is built in a hall with an area of ​​1950 square meters. It is the longest facility of this type in the region - the track is 255 meters long, 4-6 meters wide, and we have several sharp turns to overcome.
