Ratzeburg is a city in Schleswig-Holstein, about 20 km south of Lübeck at the Ratzeburg Lake in the Duchy of Lauenburg.

The city of Ratzeburg is located on the south bank of the Ratzeburg lake. Parts of the old town are located on an island in the lake, which is connected to the surrounding banks by dams. Strictly speaking, the old town is even surrounded by 4 lakes: the Großer Ratzeburger See, the Großer Küchensee, the Kleiner Küchensee and the Domsee. Ratzeburg was a. also known for the rowing academy, which has produced several very successful rowing teams.

- 1 Ratzeburg Cathedral, Domhof 18, 23909 Ratzeburg. Romanesque basilica from the 12th century in brick architecture built on the highest point of the northern tip of the old town island with a massive west tower. Adjacent is the monastery building and the accessible cloister with the rediscovered Gothic window blinds (end of the 14th century / beginning of the 15th century).Open: daily 10 am–6pm (May 1st – Sep 30th); Tue-Sun 10: 00-16: 00 (Oct. 1 - Apr. 30).
- 2 City Church of St. Petri, Barlachplatz 7, 23909 Ratzeburg. The only transept church in northern Elbe, where the organ, pulpit and main altar are arranged perpendicular to each other. Instead of the medieval predecessor church, today's late baroque church was built from 1787 to 1791. It was not until 1911 that the church received an extended roof turret as a bell tower. In addition to the unit of pulpit altar and organ, the interior of the church impresses with the side boxes and the three-storey galleries. The church bell was cast as early as 1578.Open: daily 10: 00–17: 00 (1 Apr. – 30 Sep.), 10: 00–16: 00 (1 Oct. – 31 Mar.).
