Romanshorn is the largest port on Lake Constance and is located in the canton Thurgau in the Eastern Switzerland.

background

The settlement of the place can be traced back to the year 779, when the Franconian mistress Waldrata bequeathed the place to the monastery of St. Gallen. During the Middle Ages, Romanshorn was an important part of the St. Gallen Monastery. The village only developed into a town with the arrival of the railway in 1855, but the same year the railway trajectory across Lake Constance was started, the successor of which is today's Romanshorn-Friedrichshafen car ferry.
