Arbon is a Swiss City in the canton Thurgau. It is also the capital of the district of the same name.
background
The city is located on the southwestern shore of Lake Constance.
There is evidence that it has been inhabited since the Stone Age, as Stone Age pile dwellings have been found on the bank. The Bronze Age settlement in the same place was even the namesake for the Arbon culture (see Wikipedia: Arbon culture). It is believed that there was a Roman settlement on the slope. However, only the late Roman fort is archaeologically proven, which in Roman literature as Arbor Felix first mentioned late around 300 AD.
In the 13th century the city received first market rights and then city rights.
getting there
By train
The 1 Arbon train station is located on the railway line between Rorschach and Romanshornon which the S7 and S8 trains run.
By bus
There are regular low-floor buses to and from St. Gallen. (NFB 200 / NFB 201)
By bicycle
In the street
The city has two exits on the connecting motorway A 1.1, Arbon Süd and the end of the motorway Arbon Nord. The connecting motorway ends at the Meggenhorn junction into the A 1. From the end of the motorway, main road number 13 leads along Lake Constance Kreuzlingen (Constancy), as well as the main road number 14 to Weinfelden.
By boat
Ships of the White fleetthat operate on Lake Constance in summer also call at Arbon. However, this is more of an excursion character than a practicable way of getting there. Anyone traveling on Lake Constance with their own boat can head for the small port of Arbon.
