Rorschach is an old trading town on Lake Constance in the canton St. Gallen in the Switzerland. At the foot of the Rorschacher Berg she shows herself in baroque garb.
background
Traces of the Alemanen were found in Rorschach. In the early Middle Ages the village was still called Rorscahun. In 947 it received market, coin and customs rights from King Otto I the Abbot Graloh of the St. Gallen Monastery, to whom it was subordinate. Rorschach became an important pilgrimage station in the 10th century, even if it was not on the main route of the Way of St. The Jakobsbrunnen, which stands on today's Kronenplatz, testifies to this; in 1833 the Jakobskapelle stood here, a resting place for pilgrims.
