Background
Inhabited since the pre-Nuragic and Nuragic periods due to the presence in the territory of some domus de janas and some nuraghes, the territory of Sadali records the subsequent presence of the Roman civilization. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Cagliari until 1258 and was part of the curatoria of Seulo. At the fall of the Giudicato it passed for a short time to the Giudicato of Gallura and later under the direct control of the republic of Pisa.
Conquered by the Aragonese in 1324, Sadali was entrusted to several families of feudal lords including the Carroz. In 1604 it was incorporated into the Duchy of Mandas, a fiefdom first of the Maza and then of the Tellez-Giron of Alcantara, from whom it was redeemed in 1839 with the suppression of the feudal system.
Starting from 1877 the Corongiu anthracite mine was active in the area, which had its maximum production during the First World War and during the autarchy of the fascist regime (1936). After the war the mine had too high operating costs and the exhaustion of the richest yards, and the concession was revoked in 1964.
