Geographical notes
Seui is located in the historical region of Barbagia di Seùlo and borders on Arzana (Nuoro), Escalaplan, Esterzili, Gairo (Nuoro), Perdasdefogu (Nuoro), Sadali, Seulo, Ulassai (Nuoro) and Ussassai (Nuoro).
Background
Its territory has been inhabited since the third millennium BC, as evidenced by numerous traces and archaeological remains of the pre-Nuragic and Nuragic civilization (tomb circles, tombs of the giants, sacred wells, nuraghi, etc.).
In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Cagliari and was part of the curatoria of Seulo, of which Seulo was the capital. At the fall of the Giudicato (1258) it passed for a short time to the Giudicato of Gallura and later under the direct control of the republic of Pisa.
Conquered by the Aragonese in 1324, it was given as a fief to several families, including the Carroz counts of Quirra. In 1604 it was incorporated into the Duchy of Mandas, a fiefdom first of the Maza and then of the Tellez-Giron of Alcantara, from whom it was redeemed in 1839 with the abolition of the feudal system.
Around the middle of the seventeenth century in the historic center of the town a Spanish prison was built for the administration of justice throughout the Barbagia di Seulo which was used until 1975. Near the inhabited center there is an important mining complex in the locality of "Fundu 'e Corongiu "built in 1850 and subsequently closed in 1960, dedicated to the exploitation of an anthracite deposit. The discovery of the carboniferous deposit is to be attributed to Alberto La Marmora in 1827; the mining site remained active from 1870 until 1958.

Places of naturalistic interest
- 12 Montarbu forest complex. The oldest core of the forest consists of an ex-ademprivile property of about 1668 hectares, sold in 1926 by the Cassa di Credito Agrario di Cagliari to the State Agency for State Forests for the sum of £ 955.150. With the establishment of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia in 1948, the Montarbu State Forest became a regional heritage. In 1965 the territory was further enlarged when the municipality of Seui sold another 1098 hectares contiguous to the original complex.
Inside you can admire pure holm oak, downy oak, cork oak and chestnut woods; there are also examples of hornbeam, holly, badger and numerous endemic botanical species of significant naturalistic interest. The park is an oasis of permanent repopulation of wild animals such as the golden eagle, the Sardinian deer, the fallow deer, the mouflon and the most common wild boars.
From the altimetric point of view, the territory of the park varies from about three hundred meters above the sea level of the southern border to 1325 of Punta Margiani Pubusa on the northern border with the Flumendosa and the Gennargentu massif.
The Montarbu Park is accessible from a tourist and receptive point of view, from the welcome center of the Forestry Authority various naturalistic and ecotouristic routes start with different degrees of difficulty with the possibility of access also for the disabled.
