San Andrés is a place 7 km north-east of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
background
San Andrés is a small, somewhat sleepy place close by Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is mostly visited by locals from Santa Cruz for its beach and restaurants.
The 1 km long sandy beach (Las Teresitas) is artificially created and protected from waves by a barrier made of concrete blocks. The natural shade provided by large palm trees on the beach is pleasant.
San Andrés was to become a major tourist center one day. This is demonstrated by the beach described above, but also by a modern ruin of a shopping center with underground parking and a slope with landscaped streets without any houses (holiday apartments). The further construction was stopped years ago due to suspicion of corruption and has not been pursued since since no legal proceedings have taken place.
Apart from the ruins, San Andrés is still a very pristine place on Tenerife, where you can still have difficulties getting room and board without knowledge of Spanish.

trips
San Andrés is a good starting point for hikes in the Anaga Mountains, which can be easily reached by rental car or public bus. The village is recommended Iguests in the north-east with a hike to the old Semáforo (house with a signal mast similar to a lighthouse).
