San Cristobal de la Laguna is a city in the northeast of the island Tenerife.

The old capital of the island San Cristobal de la Laguna is generally only briefly called La Laguna designated. It was founded by the Spaniards in 1496 after the Guanches had finally subjugated the indigenous population. The remote location made it possible to build a city in the Renaissance style that did not need fortifications. According to the design of the 16th century, the old town center is still largely preserved, so it was moved to the in 1999 UNESCO world cultural heritage recorded.

La Laguna can be reached from the capital Santa Cruz by a tram, its terminus Trinidad is on the southern edge of the historic old town.
In the street
The highway TF-5 goes through the urban area of La Laguna and connects it with the north coast and Santa Cruz in the south East. The connection with the southwest of the island goes over the short one TF-2 and on to TF-1.

La Laguna is a sprawling city. Most visitors, however, are only interested in the historic city center, which is almost completely flat, largely traffic-calmed and therefore easy to explore on foot.

- 1 Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción, calle El Tizón.
The church has a striking black tower made of basalt stones. There is also a tourist information office there. A second piece of information is on the corner Calle Viana - Calle Obispo Rey Redondo (Calle de La Carrera) in the courtyard of the building Casa de los Capitanes Generales. The northern border of the district is roughly from the Calle Anchieta marked.
If you want to visit the historical churches from the inside, you should first find out about the conditions such as opening times and entrance fees in the visitor centers, some can only be entered with a card already purchased there. And taking photos is sometimes not allowed, even if the supervisory staff sometimes does not notice the tourist's flash. Calle de San Augustin
- Instituto (high school) de Canarias, in the former Convento de San Augustin. Building with a bell tower.
- Iglesia de San Augustin. The former church has been preserved as a ruin.
- 2 Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de los Dolores
- 3 Casa Salazar also Palacio Episcopal, the gray stone masonry is richly structured. In the entrance is an exhibition showing the building after the fire in 2006.
- 4 Casa Lercaro, it houses part of the Museo de Historia
- 5 Convento de Santa Clara, with the Iglesia de San Juan Bautista, from the outside only slightly structured enclosing walls can be seen, inside a church and two large monastery courtyards with wooden galleries

- Casa de los Corregidores. The two buildings belong to the city administration, including the tourist information.
- 7 Catedral or Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios, actually the Episcopal Church, was closed in 2002 and extensively renovated between 2009 and 2014. The church has been accessible again since February 2014.
- Teatro Leal. Reopened in September 2008 after a long renovation break.
- Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción. The church is the oldest church in the city. Its gloomy looking tower is one of the city's landmarks.
