Other goals
- The two great fjords in the county, Sognefjord and Nordfjord, with its many side arms, including the Aurlandsfjord and the Nærøyfjord, the 17 km long, narrowest fjord in Norway, which has been part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage of humanity is.
background
The Fylke Sogn og Fjordane is a Norwegian province on the west coast of Norway, which is characterized in particular by the longest fjord in Norway, the Sognefjord, and the largest glacier in Norway, the Jostedalsbreen. 106,000 inhabitants live on an area of 18,619 km², which is only a little more than 2% of the Norwegian population. The largest municipality is Førde with around 11,500 inhabitants, the rest of the population lives mainly in very rural, small communities. The administrative seat of the county is Hermansverk.
In the north, Sogn og Fjordane borders the Fylke Møre and Romsdal, in the east Oppland, in the southeast Buskerud and in the south to the Fylke Hordaland.
language
In the Fylke Sogn og Fjordane (as well as in the western Norwegian Fylken Hordaland and Møre og Romsdal) is Nynorsk official language. This will hardly be of any concern for travelers in the region if they are not dependent on reading long administrative texts, since Nynorsk in its pure form is actually only available in written language. In everyday language, spoken Nynorsk (spoken by 10-15% of the Norwegian population) and spoken Bokmål (spoken by the majority of the population) are so similar that tourists with only rudimentary Norwegian language skills will hardly notice any differences.
