Sankt Goar am Rhein in the Loreley valley lies on the left side of the Middle Rhine Valley at the foot of the Hunsrück across from St. Goarshausen facing the Loreley rocks. The ruins loom above the city Rheinfels Castle.

Middle Rhine Railway from Mainz to Koblenz, every hour. Travel time from Frankfurt with RE and change in Oberwesel in MRB: 1 hour 30 minutes, every 2 hours.

Bicycles can be taken along free of charge in Rhineland-Palatinate from 9 a.m., all day on the weekend.

On foot

St. Goar is on Rheinburgenweg, this runs above the place, among other things with beautiful views of the Loreley. From the district of Biebernstein there is a very long, partly straight stairway that overcomes a height difference of around 100 m.

Rheinfels Castle

The 7 Rheinfels castle ruins lies above St. Goar and was founded in 1245. After its expansion into a fortress, it was the largest fortification in the Middle Rhine Valley. At the end of the 18th century, French revolutionary troops destroyed the fortress. Branched underground mine duct system.

Open from March 15 to October 25, 2015 daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., thereafter until 5 p.m., closed from November 10 to mid-March. Museum open: 10 a.m. - 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m. - 5.30 p.m. entry: € 5, reduced: € 4, children 6-14 years: € 2.50, family ticket € 10.
