The Rheinburgenweg is the high altitude hiking trail on the left bank of the Rhine on the Middle Rhine. The 196 km route starts in Bingen am Rhein on the left side of the slope of the Middle Rhine Valley at Koblenz past Rolandseck, on the border between Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia. The Rheinburgenweg begins at the mouth of the Nahe, crosses the Moselle and the Ahr.
background
The Rheinburgenweg on the left bank of the Rhine is the counterpart to the one on the right bank of the Rhine Rheinsteig and opened in 2006. Before that there was a Rheinburgenweg on the right bank of the Rhine, but this was abandoned in favor of the Rheinsteig.
