Stotzheim is a flowery village, authentically rural and very picturesque, crossed by the Muhlbach river, a derivation of theAndlau. The origin of the name of Stotzheim seems to come from the word "storze" which means tree stump. Moreover the coat of arms of the town represents three tree trunks with shortened branches.

Understand

First mentioned in 783, Stotzheim became a possession of the Bishopric of Strasbourg from 1314. The village was plundered from 1444 by the Armagnacs, then during the Thirty Years War by the Swedes. The burnt down church was not rebuilt until 1765.

Located in the plain, between Barr and Dambach-la-Ville, Stotzheim has nearly 50 farms. This rural town specializes in the cultivation of grass in Nicot and is the second largest tobacco producer in Alsace.
