Purchases

The vast majority of things are bought after bargaining. Do not hesitate to haggle for a long time, this creates conviviality if the seller loses he will not sell, unless there is an imperative need for money.

Prices are very rarely displayed (except in restaurants), and when they are, it is generally possible to haggle.

However, do not go negotiating the price of "Lotus" (Kleenex), those handkerchiefs that are sold to you in the street, or even donuts for which the prices are standardized, without being displayed.

Chad is a secular country, but the north and center of the country are overwhelmingly Muslim. So sometimes it is difficult (and not well regarded) to find and consume alcohol. In any case, outside the cities.

In the bush villages (including Muslims in the center of the country) one can consume a craft beer served in calabashes. Avoid if you didn't fall into it when you were little.

In N'Djamena, in the big cities, in all the south of the country, no problem!

Ramadan date

  • From April 24 to May 23, 2020 (Year 1441 AH)
  • From April 13 to May 12, 2021 (Year 1442 AH)
  • From April 2 to 1er May 2022 (Hegira year 1443)

Majority of Muslims insist on local sighting of the crescent moon to mark the start of Ramadan, but others insist on calculating the new moon or declaring it saudi to determine the start of the month. Since the first crescent after the new moon is not visible everywhere at the same time, the start and end dates of the month depend on what is visible in each location. Therefore, the dates vary from country to country, but usually only one day.

  • There are small mounds in the countryside, sometimes with pots and pans or crockery. These are graves that should not be inadvertently desecrated.
  • Rudeness is a character banned in Chadian society. Be smiling and affectionate towards everyone.
  • Avoid flirting with certain women / girls dressed in veils (As they are Muslims, and Muslim tradition forbids this act)
