Torre del Mar is a city in Andalusia.

background

Politically, Torre del Mar is actually not an independent place, but belongs to Vélez-Málaga. But one tries to separate from the main church and to become independent. This is to improve business with vacationers. The name comes from a tower that once stood here in a fortress. Today the place is a pure holiday and bathing resort. But Torre del Mar is not as crowded as it is, for example Torremolinos or Fuengirola. In addition, many residents of Málaga come to Torre del Mar to spend a weekend or just an afternoon here.

Agriculture is still practiced around Torre del Mar. So not all people live from tourism here. The products that are made here can also be bought directly in the village, it couldn't be fresher.

kitchen

If you want to go out to eat, then it's best to go to the Paseo Larios, a promenade that goes through the place and where all kinds of restaurants and bars have settled. You can eat tapas here very well, but the place is also known for its fish dishes. The name of the promenade goes back to the Larios family, who were the most important family here during the time of sugar cane cultivation and who shaped the place very much. The promenade was completely redesigned in 2001. Please note there are also the typical tourist traps here. The restaurant "Contraluz" winner of the Ruta de Tapas 2016 is completely off the beaten track. But it is worth a visit. It is always good and inexpensive where there are many locals. Do not be shy. And drink and tapa (Cana y Tapa) can cost and taste 1.50 €. Drink here means beer, wine, soft drink.

There are several restaurants on the beach promenade. Fires are lit here at lunchtime and then sardine skewers are grilled. You should definitely not miss it.

nightlife

Torre del Mar is not known for long evenings and loud celebrations but rather for its tranquility. The nightlife is also limited to bars and restaurants where you can have a little something to eat and drink at the end of the day. The city even has a night's sleep, but it is not checked. Unfortunately, this is countered by the various Ferias, where the music is broadcast so loudly outdoors that you can always hear it in Caleta de Vélez, but often as far as Torrox. And that then regularly lasts until at least 5 a.m., but sometimes until 8 a.m. Since none of those responsible seem to understand that one cannot protect oneself against low frequencies (bass) and that they have been proven to be harmful to health, there is probably no remedy in sight for this plague in the foreseeable future. Every summer you can forget about sleep for at least ten nights. Nevertheless, one tries to end the day as quietly as possible. If you want to party, you have to go to nearby Málaga, here you can party all night long.
