Usingen is a city in the east Taunus.
background
Usingen is the former residence of the counts (later princes) of Nassau-Usingen. With the relocation of the seat of the princes of Usingen to Wiesbaden Usingen lost importance, but until 1972 it was the seat of the office and later the district of Usingen. Today it is a middle center in the Taunus and residential city for many commuters after Frankfurt am Main. Due to the long distance in the middle of the Hochtaunus nature park, Usingen and its 4 districts are the destination of day tourists, especially from the Rhine-Main area.

Usingen is located in the center of the Usinger Land, a plateau in the Taunus.
By plane
The nearest commercial airport is the Frankfurt am Main airport. Usingen is about 30 km north of the airport and can be reached by car or train in 45 minutes. The Anspach airfield (ICAO identification EDFA), approx. 4 km away, is a special landing field and can only be used by small private planes.
By train
Usingen has a Taunusbahn train station. On the one hand, the Taunusbahn connects Usingen with bad Homburg. From there the S5 follows the S-Bahn-Rhein-Main every quarter of an hour Frankfurt am Main. In the morning and in the evening there are also some direct connections from Usingen to Frankfurt Central Station. In the opposite direction the train travels to Brandoberndorf. The Taunusbahn is part of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (Timetable information).
By bus
In order to force the travelers to use the Taunusbahn the bus line was created Weilburg/ Usingen / Bad Homburg abolished. As a rule, it will therefore not be possible to travel by bus. There is a network of bus connections that connects Usingen with the neighboring villages.
In the street
Usingen is at the intersection of the B456 (Bad Homburg / Usingen / Weilburg) and the B 275 (Bad Nauheim/ Usingen /Idstein). The next motorway entrance is in the east via the B 275 to Ober-Mörlen and there on the A5 (kassel-Frankfurt) and in the west via the B 275 to Bad Camberg or Idstein on the A 3 (Cologne-Frankfurt).

The castle opposite the town hall is used as a high school.
city Museum. It is located in the Kavaliershaus next to the Sparkasse on Schlossplatz. A dependance (the archaeological cellar) is located in the cellar of the opposite town hall. The Eschbacher Klippen in the district of Eschbach are a popular excursion destination. The quartzite rocks are also used by alpinists as a practice area.
About 2 km outside of the village, in the direction of Wilhelmsdorf, is the Hattsteinweiher. It is the only bathing water in Usinger Land and is a popular destination for ice skating in both summer and winter. On summer weekends, the voluntary fire brigade regulates parking traffic (parking fee € 3 per car), otherwise use is free. Adjacent is a riding facility, a tennis hall and an excursion restaurant.
An indoor pool that Taunusbad (Opening times: Monday 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday to Friday 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday, Sunday and public holidays 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) is a sports pool with the latest technology.

The shopping possibilities in Usingen are limited. Small retail stores are mainly located in the city center (Obergasse, Kreuzgasse, Zitzergasse, Wilhemijstraße). Another center for retail stores with Woolworth and Aldi is located opposite in the "Riedborn" industrial park. There are also supermarkets on Wilburger Strasse.

The Schlosscafe Keth on Schlossplatz and that Fulling mill restaurant, on the B 275, in the direction of Bad Nauheim, about 2 km outside of the village are the leading addresses in the city center.
