Waasland - Waasland

It Waasland (Land of Haze)[1] is located in the northeast of the province East Flanders in Belgium, squeezed between the E34 from Kallo to Zelzate and the E17 from Kruibeke to Lochristi. Typical for this region are the convex fields with a difference in height of up to 1.60 meters between the center and the edge of the field. This difference in level resulted in better drainage of the soils.

Food

Eel is served in various ways in this region, but eel in green is the most popular. The water rabbit (muskrat) is now banned. Only the hind legs were prepared and it turned out to be a delicacy until the food inspection put a stop to it. Who knows someone, who knows someone ... can sometimes taste water rabbit, but it is no longer on the menu of certain restaurants.
