Limburg is a province of Flanders in Belgium. With the Dutch province of Limburg it forms more or less one cross-border region.

Regions

Walking, cycling, horseback riding, ... in Belgian Limburg, a new surprise pops up behind every bend. But there is also no lack of cultural-historical heritage in the various regions, each of which has its own landscape and character.

  • Haspengouw – Haspengouw is the place for bon vivants. Delicious and delicious regional gastronomy, freshly picked apples and pears… They are an ideal reward after a brisk city walk through the count's Borgloon, a climb up the Truiense abbey tower or a visit to the Grand Commandery Alden Biesen. Or do you prefer a picnic among the orchards or a ride through the enchanting castle country? Incidentally, the Plant, Rose and Vegetable Garden Festival takes place at Hex Castle every 2nd weekend in June and September. You can spend the night in authentic square farms, castle farms or even in a castle.
  • Feeding area – A bronze-green hiking paradise: that is the Voer region with its six picturesque villages. The gentle slopes, sunken roads and small landscape elements are a feast for the eyes. The Voer region is the ideal base for a cultural Euregio trip. You can be in Liège, Aachen or Maastricht in no time.
  • Limburg Kempen – The Kempen is also mainly known for its natural beauty: the sandy plain of the Lommel Sahara, the extensive pine forests, the babbling brooks, fens, canals and lakes. An old folk custom grew into a unique art form in Lommel: sand paintings. At the same time, the Limburg Kempen is a great play paradise. In Peer, children playfully discover the time of the famous painter Pieter Bruegel during an adventurous bicycle quest with the Story Whisperer (a combination of GPS, audio and video). De Kempen, that is too: delicious regional beers and creamy cheeses. You can combine both on three new Beer and Cheese Cycle Routes. Are you interested in industrial heritage? Then visit the Flemish Mining Museum in Beringen, the beautifully renovated garden districts in Eisden and Beringen or the multicultural market in Heusden-Zolder. With Regiotours you explore the region and key figures show you around their neighborhood.
  • Maasland – In Maasland you can fully enjoy the waterfront: with fishing line, boat, on foot or by bicycle. The Maas connects both Limburgs like a blue vein. Hop on the ferries and discover the cultural similarities and differences in the flowery, old Maas villages on both banks.

Towns

  • Hasselt – The capital Hasselt is a mixture of pleasant shopping streets, market squares, historic buildings and striking new construction. Hasselt was voted 'Coziest city in Flanders' and is home to a wealth of tasty cafes and restaurants. The National Jenever Museum and the Fashion Museum show that Hasselt rightly calls itself 'The Capital of Taste'. Other places of interest include the Japanese Garden, Herkenrode Abbey, the Stadsmus
  • Maaseik – is the cultural gem of the Maasland: a melting pot of Maasland renaissance architecture, city of the painter brothers Van Eyck and knapkoek. The renowned church treasures and St. Catherine's Church reflect the rich ecclesiastical history. The picturesque market square is one of the most beautiful in Belgium. The Museactron museum is currently being renovated and will be open again from mid-2008.
  • Tongeren – the oldest city in Belgium, the Roman and medieval past has left a wealth of cultural-historical heritage. You can experience more of this history from 2009 in the Gallo-Roman Museum, which is currently being enlarged. Tongeren also enjoys international fame thanks to its Sunday antiques and flea market, the largest in the Benelux.
  • Lommel – is known for its white sand that can be found in the sandy plains of the Lommel Sahara. In addition to the natural beauty, the center of Lommel is becoming completely modern. Highlights are the Glass House, St. Peter's Band Church and the German military cemetery.
