The place Wacken was evidently mentioned for the first time in 1148. Finds from early Germanic prehistory, e.g. B. the still clearly recognizable barrow near Vaale, but suggest an older settlement. With the construction of the church in 1861, Wacken received its own parish in 1863, and consequently the number of inhabitants increased. Today Wacken has a central water supply as well as local drainage, a modern day-care center and a large sports hall with well-tended sports fields and a wonderfully located outdoor pool. In 1998 a village square was built, which is the center of the community for many events. All service areas for the supply of everyday items are available in Wacken. Embedded in wonderful nature, Wacken offers people a good infrastructure with a wide range of goods and services.
In Wacken, this takes place every August 1 Wacken Open Air (W: O: A) instead of. During this time the population multiplies for a short time due to festival fans from all over the world. Cinematically, the in Full Metal Village set a monument.
