Hike to Ravensburg - Wanderung zur Ravensburg

Hiking trail from Mühlbach to Ravensburg and back

Kraichgau and Stromberg offer a wealth of sights that can be accessed along well-developed hiking trails. The Hike to Ravensburg is an example of one of the numerous varied tours, it goes as a circular hike from the Steinhauerdorf Mühlbach at Eppingen down over wooded heights Kürnbach and through the vineyards of the Schwarzrieslingdorf to the striking Ravensburg Sulzfeld.

preparation

Elevation differences along the way
  • Length of the route: approx. 15 km,
  • Pure walking time: about 4 hours. Plan time for a rest in Kürnbach and on the Ravensburg.
  • Paths: paved forest paths, agricultural paths, sometimes grass paths possible, but avoidable. The pavement of the paths is mostly not suitable for inline skiers. The routes are also signposted as cycle paths.
  • The inner courtyard of the Ravensburg is usually closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The route can be hiked through as a circular route in both directions. This direction was chosen so that the more strenuous and less interesting part is at the beginning

getting there

Choice of starting point: Almost any of the places along the route are equally suitable as a starting point. Mühlbach bei Eppingen has a large parking lot on the outskirts of the village at Mühlbach Lake, which is used as a bathing lake. Arrival by car possible. Alternatively: Arriving by bus, there is a bus line from Eppingen HNV to Mühlbach. When arriving by train, we recommend the Sulzfeld train station as a starting point.

Starting point at the Mühlbacher See

From Mühlbach to the K2149

From the parking lot, the path goes past Mühlbacher See, then along a footpath on the K2149 in the direction of Ochsenburg. After a good 100 m, the footpath crosses the street (see figure point 1). In the Hartwald you will immediately come across a farm road. On the right it goes uphill within the forest. Mark: blue point. A short stretch then runs along the edge of the forest and offers a magnificent view towards Sulzfeld and Ravensburg. Now it's almost always straight ahead towards the south. Then after a total distance of about 2 km you have reached the edge of the forest and come back to the K2149 (see point 2).

  • Here you will find, among other things, the signposted cycle paths of the Stromberg-Heuchelberg nature park and the main hiking path 8 of the Swabian Alb Association

From the K2149 to Kürnbach

The trail follows a dirt road to the east. After about 400 m you will meet the K2060. Follow this for about 200 m to the west, then continue straight on on an asphalt farm road to the edge of the forest. Now the path leads downhill for about 1.2 km through the hard forest to the edge of the forest (point3).

  • At the edge of the forest, a large overview board for the municipality of Kürnbach indicates a nearby wild boar enclosure, a children's playground and several hiking and cycling trails.

On the further way in the direction of Kürnbach you get to the restaurant Weiß with the possibility to rest. However, entering the vivid bee garden is at your own risk. Shortly before Kürnbach you reach the Schlosswiesensee, the retention basin is used for local recreation.

  • There are several resting places in Kürnbach.

The Ravensburg
On the way to Ravensburg

The easiest way is on Austraße straight on to Ziersdorfer Platz, named after the Austrian partner community in the Weinviertel, from which the mighty wine press on the street comes from. Now there are several possibilities (point 4):

  • The path from Ziersdorfer Platz to the right up to the Dorfberg is marked, this road leads to the outskirts and then continues as a grass path, after a few 100 m it goes up to the left into the vineyards. At the top of the ridge, the path marked as a cycle path leads east to the edge of the forest
  • Walk down Austraße from Ziersdorfer Platz on Lindenstraße and then turn right onto Schulstraße and from there continue on the bike path through the vineyards to the forest.

The path through the forest goes slightly downhill, after a short time you come to the open field and see the Ravensburg in front of you. The dirt road leads to road K3509, then follow this about 100 m to the east, now a road branches off to the outskirts of Sulzfeld (point 5The path straight ahead ends at the Schützenhaus, to the left you come to the village and the castle, the easiest way is to the right in the direction of Seemühle. Shortly after a nursery, a last and steep stretch of path leads up to the castle.

On the way back
View from the keep over the outer bailey to Mühlbach
  • There is a restaurant at the castle, the terrace of which offers a beautiful view of Sulzfeld. The view from the freely accessible 20 m high keep is even better.

From Ravensburg back to Mühlbach

From the castle you can see Mühlbach in the east. After a few meters you come to a signpost and follow the somewhat irritating signs Ochsenburg. The route is marked as a cycle path and as Sulzfelder Panorama-Weg labeled (point 6). Now it goes away from the vineyards and through the forest. Mark: red Cross. Then the first houses in Mühlbach appear, and you walk down to the southern edge of the village to the Mühlbacher See and back to the parking lot

The route follows several hiking trails in several places, e.g .:

  • Eppinger Linien-Weg from Eppingen to Pforzheim

Several cycle paths also cross the route, e.g .:
