Zbąszyń (German: Bentschen) is a city in the voivodeship Greater Poland on the Lubusz Lake District in Poland. The place is on the border with the historical region Neumark at the Obra as well as at the lake Błędno and is particularly known as a water sports center and for its historic old town.
getting there
By train
The 1 railway station from Zbąszyń is located on the outskirts northwest of the town center. The place is on the Eurocity route between Frankfurt (Oder) and Poznan however, the train does not stop in Zbąszyń, but in Zbąszynek (New Bentschen) a few kilometers west of the city. The Eurocity from Berlin direction Gdynia and Warsaw as well as the train from Berlin to Moscow stop there. If you want to take your bike with you, you also need a reservation for a bike parking space on these trains. The last part can be done with the regional train (or the bike you have brought with you).
There are regional connections Poznan, Zielona Góra, Leszno and Nowa Sól. Who from transfer station Rzepin east of Frankfurt (Oder) arrives must also be in Zbąszynek change. Trains to Wolsztyn and further after Leszno also stop at the breakpoint 2 Zbąszyń Przedmieście.

Zbąszyń is well accessible from the motorway A2 (Frankfurt-Posen). The place is south of the exit Trzciel.

- Jezioro Błędno (Bentschener See). The lake is located in the southwest of the village and is part of the river Obra. There is a swimming beach and opportunities for sailing, boating, paddling and fishing.

- 1 Zbąszynek (New Bentschen) a few kilometers to the west was built as a railway settlement in the 1930s. There are still some historical buildings as well as some interesting churches and a castle in the districts of the area.
- The bunkers of the 4 Fortress front Oder-Warthe-Bogen (East wall) from the Second World War run along a line 35 kilometers west of the city. At the village Pniewo (36 km north-west of Zbąszyń) there is also a museum and the opportunity to take a guided tour through part of the underground facilities.
- 2 Świebodzin (Schwiebus) is located 35 kilometers to the west and is known for the 36 meter high and therefore world's largest statue of Christ. It was inaugurated on November 21, 2010. Remains of a medieval city wall from the 14th-16th centuries can be found above it. Century, an old castle, which was rebuilt in the 19th century and some hiostoric wooden houses in the old town.

The Wolsztyn – Zbąszyń railway line was started in 1884 and the depot with its many steam locomotives is still the main attraction of the place, especially among railway enthusiasts. Every year on the last weekend in April there is also a large steam locomotive parade. This is also located 6 kilometers from the village Cistercian monastery Obra.
- 6 Międzyrzecz (Meseritz) is north-west of the city. A number of churches, monasteries and historical buildings are worth seeing.
- 7 Gorzów Wielkopolski (Landsberg on the Warta), The seat of the Voivodeship of Lebus, is located 100 kilometers northwest of Zbąszyń.
