Wolsztyn (German: Wollstein) is a city in the polish Voivodeship Greater Poland. The town is framed by two lakes. The city between on the southeast edge of the Poznan Lake District in the historical region Greater Poland in the Poznan country. The city is idyllically located between wooded moraine hills and lakes on the northern edge of the metropolitan region Poses. The place is particularly well-known among railway enthusiasts, as there are still 30 steam locomotives to be admired here, some of which are still in regular train service.

Wolsztyn has historically belonged to some regions, such as the Kingdom of Poland, Prussia and the Duchy of Warsaw, later to the Province of Posen and from 1939 to 1945 Wollstein was the seat of the district of the same name in the Reichsgau Wartheland. Today it is the capital of the district of the same name in Greater Poland. The Wolsztyn – Zbąszyń railway line was started in 1884 and the depot with its many steam locomotives is still the main attraction of the place, especially among railway enthusiasts. The German physician and microbiologist Robert Koch worked in the city from 1872-1880. The anthrax pathogen was discovered here by him.
