getting there

The region is because of the central airport Arturo Benítez, a few kilometers north of Santiago, by far the best starting point for trips to Chile. There are many direct flights from the airport to Europe, the USA and almost all Latin American countries.

Of Mendoza (ArgentinaFlag of ArgentinaArgentina) from the best developed transandine road leads over Los Andes to Santiago. Bus connections are close-knit. The return trip costs around 30 euros. The journey time depends on the processing speed at the border and is between 6 and 10 hours (do not always trust the arrival time given by the bus company!)

mobility

There is a very well developed transport system in the region. Suburban and regional trains operate in the vicinity of Santiago and Valparaiso, also at Concepción. Otherwise the bus network is very dense. In addition to the Ruta 5, the Panamericana, there are some well-developed coastal roads.

climate

The climate is very similar to the Mediterranean climate in Europe, but shows greater temperature differences between day and night, as the Pacific is very cool here (only around 18 ° C in summer) and therefore does not act as a heat store. In winter the temperatures are already sensitively cool (around 15 ° C, frequent night frosts). Nevertheless, the region's vegetation is largely identical to that of the Mediterranean.
