Bad Kötzting is a city and Kneipp spa in Bavarian forest.
background
Kötzting was first mentioned in 1085 as "Chostingen". 1953 Kötzting was raised to the city. It was not until 1972 that Kötzting came to the district as part of the regional reform Cham and thus to Upper Palatinate (previously a separate district in the administrative district Lower Bavaria).
In 1985 Kötzting became a climatic health resort and in 1995 a Kneipp health resort. In 2005, Kötzting was awarded the Kneipp spa rating Bad Kötzting.
regional customs
The largest mounted procession, the Pentecost, goes back to a promise made in 1412. Around 1000 riders with magnificently decorated horses move from Kötzting to Steinbühl, about 7 km away.
getting there
In the street
Via the A3 bis Straubing and then with the B20 via Miltach. Or via the A93 bis Schwandorf and from there with the B85 (partially expanded to 4 lanes) over Cham to Kötzting.
By train
The Oberpfalzbahn takes you from Cham to Kötzting. The next long-distance transport hub with ICE and IC / EC is in Nuremberg or regensburg.
By plane
The Munich Airport
(IATA: MUC) is approx. 165 km from Kötzting.
By boat
Next options on the Danube are Straubing, Deggendorf and regensburg. However, no scheduled services are offered.
mobility
A city bus is not offered; bus connections to the region are provided by the RBO hazards. Sometimes only a few connections are offered.
The Upper Palatinate Railway goes to Cham and after Lam.
With the Bavarian Forest Ticket there is an inexpensive day pass for all public transport in the direction Lower Bavaria (Viechtach, Ground corn and Bavarian Eisenstein). In the direction Cham unfortunately it is not valid.
Tourist Attractions
- Weissenregen pilgrimage church - Rococo building from the 18th century on a hill above Kötzting (approx. 3 km)
- Wolfram linden - in the OT Ried, to be reached via Lederdorn (approx. 7 km), there is an approximately 850-year-old summer linden tree (Tilia platyphyllos) with a circumference of about 13 meters.
- Spa gardens - very nicely designed with a Kneipp spa pool and quiet corners

Regular events
- The Pentecost on Whit Monday is one of the largest mounted processional processions in Europe. It goes back to a vow made in 1412 and today more than 900 riders on decorated horses and in Bavarian Forest costumes go praying from Bad Kötzting through the Zellertal to Steinbühl every year.
